HELLO

I'm Angela Larisch, a multidisciplinary designer based in Portland, Oregon with a passion for the innovative edges of design. With Ceremony, I explore the intriguing world of scent design, combining my background in visual arts with the potential of fragrance.

MY STORY

After receiving a BFA in Applied Visual Arts from Oregon State University, I spent the first part of my professional career working as a graphic designer, art director, and creative director. In 2017, I had a chance encounter with the field of scent design and was fascinated by how it challenged my highly visual understanding of my field. I recognized scent as an untapped medium with the potential to enable a wide range of deeply compelling experiences. Since then, I’ve been focused on researching and exploring scent’s potential applications at the intersections of art, experience design, education, and wellness.

I learned the art of scent creation by studying under legendary natural perfumer Mandy Aftel. A true artist in the field, she taught me not only how to think about and construct fragrances, but also instilled in me a deep appreciation for their artistic potential. I also take part in ongoing education through other organizations such as the Institute for Art and Olfaction. I created Ceremony as my way of sharing the transformative power of scent.
